How to Build and Use the Blood Altar

Placing the Altar

Place a Blood Altar on the ground. This is the center of all blood-based crafting. You need a way to fill it with Life Essence before it does anything useful.

Filling the Altar

Stand near the Blood Altar and sacrifice health. Your health drains into the Altar as Life Essence. Keep food on you so you can heal back up between sacrifices. The Altar stores the Life Essence you feed it, and that stored essence is spent when you craft blood items.

Crafting at the Altar

With Life Essence stored, place the required ingredients into the Blood Altar. The Altar consumes the stored essence and the input items to produce the result. If the Altar will not craft, it does not have enough Life Essence stored — sacrifice more health first.

Expanding the Altar

Surround the Blood Altar with runes to change how it works. Blank Rune is the base rune. Acceleration Rune speeds up the Altar's crafting. Charging Rune affects how it charges. Displacement Rune changes how items move in and out. Place runes in the blocks adjacent to the Blood Altar to apply their effects.
