Crafting Asphalt

Asphalt is a dark paving block used for roads, driveways, and modern paths. Craft Asphalt at a crafting table, then use a stonecutter to produce Asphalt Slab and Asphalt Stairs from the full block. The slab and stair variants let you ramp roads up hills and step paths down to ground level without leaving gaps.

Laying Roads and Paths

Run Asphalt in straight lines for roads, then use Asphalt Slab to create gentle grade changes and Asphalt Stairs where a path meets a raised platform. Because Asphalt is a full block, you can place it flush with Black Concrete Bricks or Black Stone Bricks to form curbs and shoulders. Line a road with Black Concrete Pillar or Blackstone Door and Blackstone Trapdoor for a built-up city look. For parking areas, fill a rectangle with Asphalt and mark bays with Black Colored Tiles or Black Yellow Colored Tiles. Asphalt also pairs well with Black Shingles, Black Shingles Slab, and Black Shingles Stairs for rooftops and overpasses. If you want a lit road, set Black Redstone Lamp or Amethyst Lamp along the edge. Use Asphalt Slab as a sidewalk beside a full-block Asphalt road to create a visible height difference between driving and walking surfaces.
