Smelting and Compressing Ores into Ingots and Plates

Ore to Ingot

Every metal you mine on the Moon, Mars, Mercury, Glacio, and Venus must be smelted before use. Feed raw ores into a furnace: Mars Iron Ore, Mercury Iron Ore, Glacio Iron Ore, Glacio Copper Ore, Mars Ostrum Ore, Mars Diamond Ore, Glacio Coal Ore, and Glacio Lapis Lazuli Ore all smelt into their respective outputs. Blasting works too and is faster for bulk runs.

Ingots to Components

Once you have Calorite Ingot, Desh Ingot, or Ostrum, shape them into parts. Craft Iron Plate and Iron Rod for machine frames and casings. Desh Plate is used for Desh Plating Block and Desh Pillar. Use a Hammer to work ingots into plates and rods when a recipe calls for them.

Compressing for Storage

Build a Compressor to turn loose ingots into dense blocks. Compressed Calorite, Compressed Desh, Compressed Ostrum, and Compressed Steel each pack nine ingots' worth of material into one slot. This is essential when hauling resources between planets or storing bulk in a Calorite Tank or Desh Tank setup.

Blocks and Decoration

Turn ingots into Block of Calorite, Block of Desh, Block of Ostrum, Block of Steel, Block of Iron Plating, or Block of Blue Iron Plating for building. Use Blue Iron Pillar, Desh Pillar, and Block of Rusted Iron Pillar for structural accents. Stonecutting converts Mars Stone, Mercury Stone, Glacio Stone, and their brick variants into Slabs and Stairs for detailed builds.
