Optimize Basic Lighting Shaders for Better Performance
Reduce Shadow Quality
If you're experiencing frame rate drops, lower the shadow resolution or distance settings in the shader options. This is one of the most impactful changes for performance while still maintaining the shader's visual benefits.
Disable Advanced Effects
Look for toggles related to water reflections, ambient occlusion, or parallax effects. Disabling these features can significantly improve performance on lower-end systems without removing the core lighting improvements.
Adjust Render Distance
Reduce how far shadows and lighting effects are calculated into the distance. This keeps the shader active in your immediate area while reducing computational load on distant terrain.
Monitor Frame Rate
Use your F3 debug screen to watch your FPS while making changes. Start with the most aggressive performance cuts, then gradually re-enable features until you find a balance between visuals and smooth gameplay. Basic Lighting Shaders is designed to be lightweight, so you should see improvements even on modest hardware.
