Adjust Shadow Quality and Performance
Finding the Shader Settings
Open the shader options menu by pressing the designated key while in-game (usually accessed through Video Settings > Shaders > Shader Options). AurumLite Shaders provides a dedicated panel for tuning shadow behavior without requiring manual file editing.
Balancing Shadows and Frame Rate
Look for shadow distance and shadow quality sliders. Reducing shadow distance will improve performance on older hardware—shadows will only render closer to the player. If you're experiencing frame drops, lower the shadow quality setting first before adjusting distance.
For potato computers, disable soft shadow filtering if available; this removes the blur effect on shadow edges but significantly boosts FPS. Keep real-time shadows enabled—this is the core feature and runs efficiently even on low-end systems.
Mac-Specific Optimization
If playing on Mac, the shader includes dedicated optimizations. Check for a Mac-specific quality preset in the options menu. These presets automatically configure shadow rendering to work smoothly with Mac's graphics pipeline, avoiding common performance issues on Apple hardware.
Test your changes in an area with varied lighting (trees, buildings, caves) to see the visual impact before committing to settings.
