Troubleshoot Visual Glitches and Artifacts
Identify Common Issues
Common glitches include flickering blocks, strange shadow banding, color shifts in specific biomes, or lighting that doesn't update smoothly. Note when and where these occur—this helps pinpoint the cause.
Reset to Default Settings
If visual problems appear after customization, reset shader options to defaults. This eliminates configuration conflicts. Then re-enable features one at a time to isolate the problematic setting.
Check Compatibility with Other Mods
Some mods conflict with shader lighting calculations, especially those affecting blocks, lighting, or world generation. Disable recently added mods and test if glitches persist.
Adjust Lighting Update Frequency
If blocks don't light correctly after placement, look for lighting update or chunk rebuild settings. Increasing update frequency can fix delayed lighting but may impact performance slightly.
Clear Shader Cache
Shader packs sometimes cache compiled code. Restarting Minecraft clears this cache. If issues persist after restart, try removing and reinstalling the shader.
Lower Render Distance Temporarily
Extreme render distances can cause visual artifacts. Reduce it to 12 chunks and test. If glitches disappear, gradually increase distance to find the stable limit for your hardware.
Report Persistent Issues
If problems continue, document the exact conditions and your hardware specs for community support.
