Create a Custom Item with Generated Textures

Setting Up Your Custom Item

This mod lets you define items without pre-baking textures into your mod files. Start by creating a simple item definition in your mod's code that registers with ARRP.

Generating the Texture On-the-Fly

1. Use ARRP's texture generation API to build your item texture during runtime

2. Reference the texture path in your item model JSON—ARRP will create the actual PNG when the game loads

3. Test in-game; the texture should appear without requiring a resource pack restart

4. If you need to tweak colors or patterns, modify your generation code and reload—no file recompilation needed

Overriding with Resource Packs

Because ARRP places generated assets at low priority, any custom resource pack you load will override the generated texture automatically. This means players can customize your item's appearance without touching mod files. Simply create a standard resource pack with the same texture path, and it takes precedence over ARRP's output.
