Apply Armor Trims to Custom 3D Armor Pieces

Understand Trim Compatibility

Armor Model API Mod supports vanilla armor trims on custom geometry. Trims apply metallic patterns to armor surfaces and work on any custom piece you've created—whether it's a hat, skirt, or shoulder pad.

Set Up Trim Textures

Create trim texture files for your custom armor pieces in the standard trim format. Place them in assets/modname/textures/trims/armor/ alongside your armor textures. Name them to match your armor set so the mod can find them.

Enable Trims on Your Armor Item

When registering your custom armor item, enable trim support in the item's properties or configuration file. The mod will automatically layer trim textures over your custom 3D geometry when a player applies a trim using a smithing table.

Test in-Game

Equip your custom armor and visit a smithing table. Select a trim material and pattern—you should see the metallic trim render across your custom armor pieces. Trims will follow the shape of your geometry, not just flat surfaces.
