Using the Rune of the Storm and Storm-Themed Gear

What the Rune does

Rune of the Storm is a key item tied to storm and lightning-themed content. Carry it during boss encounters such as Captain Cornelia and while exploring areas where Maelstrom Vestige and Tempest Trident are relevant. It pairs naturally with the Dreadwake and Tidepiercer weapons.

Building the storm kit

1. Obtain Rune of the Storm from loot or crafting.

2. Craft or loot Tempest Trident — a trident-class weapon suited to the same encounters.

3. Add Dreadwake as a secondary weapon.

4. Equip Abyssal or Salvager armor so you survive the fight long enough to use them.

5. Bring Shell Horn for signaling and Echo Compass for navigation.

Where it fits in progression

Storm gear sits after the Terrible tier. You should already have a smithing table, Smithing Template, and Abyssal Amethyst before chasing these items. Maelstrom Vestige and Rune of the Storm are both tied to the mod's higher-tier content, so treat them as mid-to-late goals. If you are still in Terrible gear, finish the Abyssal or Salvager set first. Once equipped, the storm kit is what you bring to Captain Cornelia, Maze Mother, and Maelstrom Vestige encounters.
