Crafting the Echo Compass

The Echo Compass is a shaped crafting recipe. Place the required ingredients in a crafting table grid in the exact pattern the recipe shows. Once crafted, it goes into your inventory like any other tool.

Using It to Find Your Way

Hold the Echo Compass and watch its needle. It points toward points of interest rather than your spawn point, so it behaves differently from a vanilla compass. Use it when exploring the open water and underwater structures where landmarks are hard to see.

Pair it with the Luminescent Bubble and Luminescent Lamp to mark your route. The Luminescent Bubble is both an item and a block, so you can place it as a light source and carry spare ones. The Luminescent Lamp is a block only — place it at cave mouths, wreck entrances, or anywhere you plan to return to.

If you get turned around, place a Luminescent Lamp, note the direction the Echo Compass points, and swim that way. Because the compass ignores your bed and spawn, it stays useful even after you have slept in a new base.

Keep the Echo Compass in your hotbar, not a shulker box. You will want it active the moment you surface from a dive and need to reorient.
