Fishing Rods, Lines, Bobbers, and Hooks Explained

The Parts of a Rig

A working fishing rig is assembled from separate components rather than a single item:

• Fishing Rod — the base tool. Tiers are Iron Fishing Rod, Golden Fishing Rod, and Neptunium Fishing Rod.
• Fishing Line — connects the rod to the rest of the rig.
• Bobber — required for the rod to function; it is what dips when a fish bites.
• Hook — determines what kind of loot you pull up.

Combine these in a crafting grid to build the rig, then attach it to your rod.

Hook Reference

Each hook changes your results:

• Iron Hook — basic, all-purpose.
• Gold Hook — better loot quality.
• Double Hook — chance of multiple fish per cast.
• Heavy Hook — larger fish.
• Light Hook — smaller, faster fish.
• Obsidian Hook — durable, deeper loot pool.
• Double Obsidian Hook — durable and multi-catch.
• Glowstone Hook — works well in darkness.
• Nether Star Hook — best overall hook.
• Note Hook and Obsidian Note Hook — play a note on bite.

Upgrading Your Rod

Start with the Iron Fishing Rod, move to the Golden Fishing Rod when you can, and finish with the Neptunium Fishing Rod once you have Neptunium Ingots from Lockboxes and Boxes. Pair the best rod you own with the best hook you own, add Leech from a Worm Farm, and fish in deep water for the strongest results.
