Socket Your First Block Into a Staff

Prepare Your Equipment

Before you can unlock a staff's power, you need two things: a staff in your off-hand and a compatible block in your main hand. Compatible blocks include Grass, Dirt, Stone, TNT, Gold, Netherite, Cake, and many others. If you're not sure whether your block works, check the staff's tooltip—it will show you what's compatible.

Activate the Socket

Hold your chosen staff in your off-hand slot (press X by default, or use your inventory). Keep a compatible block in your main hand. Stand in a safe location and right-click. You'll see a special hand animation play as the block inserts into the staff. The staff now holds that block and will use its associated power when you attack or use abilities.

Swap Blocks Anytime

You can remove and replace blocks whenever you want. Simply hold a different block in your main hand and right-click again with the staff in your off-hand. Each block type creates different effects—experiment to find combinations that suit your playstyle.
