Enhance Brush Stroke Visibility on Specific Blocks
Understand Stroke Application
Ancient Brush Strokes applies painterly outlines based on block edges and surface normals. Certain blocks—like logs, leaves, and stone—show more pronounced strokes than others. Smooth blocks like glass or concrete may have minimal visible brushwork.
Position Yourself for Best Effect
Stroke visibility increases with distance and angle. Stand back from your build rather than right against it. Strokes are most apparent when light hits surfaces at oblique angles, so position yourself so the sun or moon illuminates the side you're viewing.
Use Contrasting Materials
Pair dark blocks (obsidian, deepslate) with light ones (white concrete, sand) to maximize the visual impact of brush strokes. The shader emphasizes edges between tonal values, so high-contrast builds show more dramatic brushwork.
Adjust Time of Day
Test your build at sunrise, noon, and sunset. The shader's shadow and line rendering changes with light direction, sometimes making strokes more or less visible depending on the sun's position.
