Create Cohesive Ink-Painted Landscapes
Plan with Tonal Values in Mind
Think of your build in terms of light and dark areas rather than individual block colors. The shader converts everything to grayscale ink tones, so a red block and a green block may render identically. Sketch your design using only black, white, and grey references.
Use Terrain Height Strategically
The shader emphasizes elevation changes through shadow gradation. Gentle slopes create soft transitions; steep cliffs produce dramatic ink washes. Design terrain with this in mind—valleys naturally become dark ink pools, peaks become bright highlights.
Layer Materials by Depth
Place darker blocks deeper in your landscape and lighter blocks toward the surface or sky. This creates natural depth that the shader enhances through its tonal rendering.
Test Biome Interactions
Different biomes have different foliage and terrain colors, which the shader interprets as varying ink tones. Build across multiple biomes to see how the shader unifies or differentiates them through its ink wash effect.
Step Back Frequently
View your work from a distance. The ink effect is designed to be appreciated as a complete scene, not up close.
