Optimize Performance While Using Alma Shaders

Reduce Shader Load

Alma Shaders can impact frame rates depending on your system. Access the shader options menu and disable or lower settings that consume the most resources:

  • Lower shadow render distance
  • Reduce cloud quality or disable advanced sky effects
  • Decrease water reflection resolution
  • Turn off ambient occlusion or set it to a lower quality tier

Adjust Minecraft Graphics Settings

Pair shader optimization with vanilla Minecraft settings:

  • Lower render distance if needed (shaders amplify the visual cost of distant chunks)
  • Reduce particle effects in video settings
  • Disable smooth lighting if performance is critical
  • Use Fast graphics mode instead of Fancy

Monitor and Balance

Use an FPS counter to track performance after each change. The goal is finding the sweet spot where Alma's visual improvements remain noticeable while maintaining playable frame rates. Start by disabling the most demanding features first, then re-enable them one at a time until you hit your target performance threshold.
