Maximize Shadow Realism and Depth

Configure Shadow Settings

Access the Alma Shaders options and find shadow-related controls:

  • Shadow Distance: Determines how far shadows render from your position
  • Shadow Quality/Resolution: Higher values create sharper, more defined shadows
  • Shadow Softness: Controls edge blur—lower values create crisp shadows, higher values create softer transitions
  • Shadow Intensity: Adjusts how dark shadows appear

Position Yourself to Observe Shadows

Shadows are most visible and impactful during:

  • Early morning or late afternoon (low sun angle creates long, dramatic shadows)
  • Overcast conditions (softer, more diffused shadows)
  • Near tall structures like mountains, trees, or buildings
  • Underground areas with light sources (torches and lava cast realistic shadows)

Balance Performance and Quality

High shadow quality significantly impacts performance. If you experience frame rate drops, reduce shadow distance first (shadows far away matter less), then lower resolution. Keep shadow intensity and softness high for visual impact while reducing computational cost through distance and resolution adjustments.
