Adjust Volumetric Fog Density for Better Visibility

Access Shader Settings

Press the key to open the Iris shader menu (default is O). Navigate to the Afterimage Shaders options panel. Look for fog-related sliders under the atmosphere or environment section.

Modify Fog Parameters

Locate the volumetric fog density or thickness slider. Decrease the value if fog is obscuring your view too much—this is especially useful when building or exploring caves. Increase it for a more immersive, atmospheric experience during exploration or horror gameplay.

You can also adjust fog color saturation and distance falloff separately. Some settings let you control how fog behaves in specific biomes, so dense forests can feel different from open plains.

Test Your Changes

Move through different environments—caves, forests, and open areas—to see how your adjustments feel. Changes apply in real-time, so you can fine-tune without restarting. If you want to return to defaults, most shader menus have a reset option for individual sliders or all settings at once.
