Crafting the Escape Rope

The Escape Rope is created with a shaped crafting recipe. Place the required materials in the crafting grid in the correct pattern and collect the finished Escape Rope from the output.

Using the Escape Rope

Keep the Escape Rope in your inventory or hotbar during mining and cave exploration. When you are deep underground and need to get back up, use the Escape Rope to return toward the surface. This saves you from digging a staircase back up or retracing a long, dangerous route through mobs and drops.

Use it when you have gathered enough ores and want to leave quickly, or when you are lost in a cave system and need a reliable way out. Because it is a single item, carry it whenever you plan to descend far below your base.

Pair the Escape Rope with light items so your trip down is safer. Craft the Mining Helmet to keep both hands free while mining, or the Flashlight to light your path. The Mining Lantern and Ender Lantern are also available as light sources from shaped crafting recipes. Stock the Escape Rope before any deep expedition so you always have a way back to the surface.
