Routing Smoke with Ducts, Vents and Pump Pipes

Duct is your basic connector

Duct blocks form the backbone of any chimney route. Place Duct directly above a furnace or fire, then continue the Duct line upward or sideways to the point where you want smoke to leave. Duct connects to chimney blocks, pumps, and other Ducts.

Choose an exit

You have three exit options: a chimney block (Cobblestone Chimney, Stone Chimney, Small Brick Chimney, Large Brick Chimney, Glass Chimney, Metal Chimney), a Vent (Metal Vent or Stone Vent), or the end of a Pump Pipe run. A chimney block is the simplest exit — just cap the Duct line with one. A Vent is used when a pump is pushing the smoke. Pump Pipe is used to carry smoke a long distance from a pump to a remote exit.

Build a long-distance route

For a distant exhaust, place a pump (Metal Pump or Stone Pump) on the Duct line, attach Pump Pipe to the pump, and run Pump Pipe to the far location. Terminate the Pump Pipe on a Vent or chimney block. Every block in the chain must touch its neighbor: Duct to pump, pump to Pump Pipe, Pump Pipe to vent or chimney.

Troubleshoot gaps

Smoke only travels through touching blocks. If a segment is missing or offset, the route breaks. Walk the line from heat source to exit and confirm each Duct, pump, Pump Pipe, vent, and chimney block is directly adjacent to the next.
