How to Use Bars as Windows, Fences, and Railings

Windows and screens

Place bars in a wall opening to create a window that blocks movement but lets you see through. Iron Bars, Gold Bars, and Copper Bars work well for metal-framed windows; Oak Bars, Spruce Bars, and the other wooden variants suit cottages and cabins. Fill a 1x2 or 2x2 gap with bars and frame it with planks or stone for a finished look.

Fences and pens

Bars make effective fences for animals and mobs. Run a line of bars at ground level, then add a second row on top for height. Wooden bars match farm aesthetics; Iron Bars suit hostile-mob pens and villager enclosures. Bars connect to adjacent bars automatically, so corners and junctions need no special pieces.

Railings and balconies

Use bars as railings on balconies, bridges, and staircases. Place a row of bars along the edge, then cap the ends with a solid block or post. Mixing two variants, such as Dark Oak Bars with Iron Bars, adds detail without extra blocks.
