Troubleshoot Flickering or Disappearing Outlines

Identify the Problem

Flickering outlines usually occur when edge detection settings are too sensitive, causing the shader to constantly recalculate which surfaces need borders. Disappearing outlines happen when brightness adaptation is too aggressive.

Adjust Edge Detection

In Shader Options, lower the Edge Detection Sensitivity setting. This reduces false positives where the shader thinks an edge exists when it doesn't. Start with a moderate value and increase only if outlines become too faint.

Stabilize Brightness Adaptation

If outlines vanish in certain lighting, increase Minimum Outline Darkness or reduce Brightness Adaptation Strength. These settings prevent outlines from becoming invisible in bright or dark areas.

Check for Conflicts

Flickering can also result from incompatible shader settings or conflicting mods. Disable any other visual mods temporarily to confirm Adaptive Outline is the source.

Reset and Rebuild

If problems persist, reset Adaptive Outline to default settings, then adjust one parameter at a time. This isolates which setting causes the issue. Document your changes so you can reproduce stable configurations.
