Spot Iron Ore in Dark Caves

Using Glow to Find Ore

The soft glow effect on iron ore blocks makes them significantly easier to locate in pitch-black caves and deep underground tunnels. This is especially useful when exploring at night or in unlit caverns.

Best Practices

  • Reduce brightness settings: If your game brightness is maxed out, lower it slightly so the glow stands out more against dark stone
  • Mine into veins: As you dig into large iron ore deposits, the connected textures and glow effects become more visible, helping you identify the full extent of the vein
  • Use caves: Explore natural caves where darkness is deepest—the contrast makes glowing ore blocks pop visually

Troubleshooting

If you can't see the glow:

  • Confirm Optifine or Continuity is installed and active
  • Check that this resource pack is enabled in your resource pack list
  • Verify your graphics settings aren't overriding the pack's effects (some shader packs may interfere)

The glow works best in complete darkness, so caves and deep mines show the effect most clearly.
